The Compact Honors….

…Lindsey B. Counsell, native son of Centerville, who has successfully negotiated and secured approval for more parcels of open space purchased for the Town of Barnstable than any other person.  Lindsey was recently recognized by the Orenda Wildlife Land Trust which named its 5-acre pine-oak sanctuary near Lake Wequaquet in Centerville after him.

Lindsey has served the Town of Barnstable in many roles, dating back to the 1980s when he was on the Conservation Commission.  He was the first manager of the Town’s Olde Fairgrounds Golf Course and insisted that as many of the mature hollies fringing the fairways be saved as possible.  When the Town adopted the Land Bank in 1998, Lindsey chaired the Land Acquisition Committee and set to work identifying and working with sellers, resulting in more than 1,100 acres being preserved between 1999 and 2006.  When the Community Preservation Committee took over the Land Bank function in 2007, Lindsey chaired the group and continues in that role to this day.

Many Northside softball players of a certain age remember Long-Ball Lindsey’s power shots into the woods at the BWB school…..Lindsey lives in Centerville with his wife Jacqui.
