The Compact board of directors voted on May 17th to fund the Land Protection Specialist staff position, vacant since Paula Pariseau retired in 2015.  Executive Director Mark Robinson announced the hiring of Isabelle Richardson of Falmouth for the position.  “The pace of new land acquisition projects (land gifts, bargain purchases and conservation restrictions) is quickening on the Cape and we are very pleased to have Isabelle’s good help on them,” said Robinson.  “She is rapidly learning the nuances of our land conservation niche.”

Robinson noted that a recent study revealed that the Cape land trusts had completed more than 80 projects under the State’s Conservation Land Tax Credit program since 2011, more than twice as many as in any other Massachusetts county.  On behalf of the local land trusts on the Cape, The Compact conducts or coordinates all the paperwork needed for landowners to receive up to $75,000 in refundable tax credits for donating land or selling it below market value for conservation purposes.

Isabelle received her bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College and her law degree from Vermont Law School.  She recently passed the Massachusetts Bar exam and also holds a law license in New York.  Isabelle and her husband reside in Falmouth, where he works as a geologist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.  She is originally from New York and most recently lived in California, where she interned in the L.A. office of The Trust for Public Land.

Isabelle is looking forward to joining the land conservation community on Cape Cod.  “I love being outdoors, whether jogging the trails or sitting quietly and observing nature.  I have come to realize that my passion is to use my legal training to help protect open space.  I am fortunate to be working at The Compact, known nationally for its creativity and usefulness.”
